My Throte Hurts Really Bad

Optimizing Linux Ubuntu Hardy Heron to 102%: tips & tricks

After installation may be desirable to optimize / speed up / customization of our Ubuntu 8.04: This is a definite logical-chronological order of operations to be performed.

NB restart / turn off the pc / end the session until the end of the guide

1 - Install packages for our language from the drop System-> Administration-> Support Language ticking the box in the Italian language (uncheck the " Inglese " default ... never had any problems without). We ok. The installation requires an active internet connection and patience (it takes a while). Do not restart / turn off the computer / session ended during and after installation!

2 - Remove unused programs from the menu System-> Administration-> Synaptic Package Manager State go up and shoot like Removal Complete what we do not use. NB Be careful what you could have a REMOVE system unusable! Carefully read the package descriptions and dependencies removed. Only after Step 5 - take total removal of the waste packages in ( Auto ) Removable Configuration and Residual . I calmly removed about 800 mb. Click Apply.

3 - (With an active internet connection) Install the programs you prefer, and reinstalled critical packages always eventually removed from Synaptic . Favorites light applications, with many functions, graphically beautiful, stable and open source. In the event, take some advice from blog about Ubuntu and the best programs / alternative than to Microsoft / Apple. Attualmete all that I can help (although "you never know") in 2 gb ... while Windows XP does not go below the 3.5 gb.

4 - Install the proprietary drivers for your computer menu System-> Administration-> Restricted Drivers checking the checkbox list. Click ok.

5 - Update the system menu System-> Administration-> Management Updates

6 - One of the best guides for the full optimization can be found on Tuxjournal (divided in 7 parts) and is be downloaded in pdf format . Add to this also read on this site: Elart . Both are very comprehensive and complementary.

7 - Customize your desktop environment by downloading dozens of free themes, skins, wallpapers, icons, etc. from Gnome Look and Deviantart

8 - Reinforce your security with Password in Bios (if you forget you are doomed or almost ...) and encrypting the hard disk (at least the Home folder) if it contains sensitive data. In this way you will be adequately protected from unauthorized physical access (example: leave your PC on unreliable in place as you go around). Also recommended In both Mac and Windows

9 - You're done. The maintenance months / years is almost non-existent achievements: First, keep constantly updated on the system (see Section 5)! After massive clean install and uninstall with these commands from the terminal (you copy and paste and leave out virogolette) to a time (NB this is an extremely clean ! ):

" sudo apt-get autoclean & & sudo apt-get & & sudo apt-get clean & & sudo apt-get remove sudo & & apt-get purge "NB requires password

" sudo dpkg - purge `COLUMNS = 300 dpkg-l" * " 10 - Delete the Catella
Home
hidden in your configuration files that contain programs removed: "into the directory Home taster and pressed together crtl + h, then removed (eg if you have removed the vlc program folder name to be cleared . vlc)
11 - Additional cleaning needed of 3 (really micro) programs: debfoster , Cruft and
deborphan

("sudo apt-get debfoster cruft deborphan . "Nb requires password) to be launched with a terminal at a time, respectively" debfoster "(type "
n" if you want to remove the package or "

y" to keep it),

cruft (he alone, more "dangerous"), and " deborphan " (orphan also checked the various items in the drop- down " all." NEVER checked the regular ones!). The first two are launched as root (from the terminal "sudo su " + password). 11 - You can restart / turn off the pc / end the session. These are the steps I followed. I am not responsible for any problems. Follow this guide at your own risk. any doubt ask FIRST .
